Buddy Guy tours the US and Europe this year after the 2009 release "The Definitive Buddy Guy." He is joined in Florida by BB King (one of Guy's influences) before he goes through the South. On 2/11/10 Guy comes to Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and is then off to many other east coast venues before he comes back to Maryland and plays in Annapolis on May 22.

It is said that rock and roll would not be the same today without Buddy Guy. Rolling Stone calls him one of the greatest guitarists of all time, and Jimi Hendrix was known to cancel his own shows just to go and see Guy play.

Guy is considered the bridge between blues and rock and roll. Guy's work has been called one of the historic links between Chicago electric Blues pioneers Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, and popular rock musicians such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, and others. Stevie Ray Vaughan said, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."

Guy is known for his flamboyant performances in addition to the unsurpassed skill of his guitar playing. He believes in entertaining his audiences and has been known to invite audience members up onto the stage with him. He has also been known to go right out into the audience and sit with his fans while he plays.

His techniques and styles of strumming the guitar with drumsticks, and playing electric guitar with one hand, are not found in any other guitar player.

Guy was born in Lettsworth, Louisiana, in 1936. He learned to play guitar on a two string diddley bow that he made. In the early 50's he began playing in the South and in Chicago with various bands until he moved to Chicago in 1957. Although Chess Records had signed him his only album under that label was "Left My Blues In San Francisco" in 1967.

In 1969 Guy appeared with music greats Led Zeppelin, Stephen Stills, Buddy Miles, Glen Campbell, Eric Clapton and others in the Supershow at Staines, England. His career finally took off in the late 1980's when Eric Clapton asked Guy to join the 24 Nights all-star blues guitar lineup at the Royal Albert Hall in London. After this show, Guy signed with Silvertone Records. Eric Clapton said, "Buddy Guy is to me what Elvis was to others." And Clapton insists in an interview with Musician magazine that, "Buddy Guy is by far and without a doubt the best guitar player alive…if you see him in person, the way he plays is beyond anyone. Total freedom of spirit…He really changed the course of rock and roll blues."

Guy's tour dates, especially those with BB King, promise to be a rare chance to see the greatest guitarist of all time. Tickets are on sale now through Great Seats.

Buddy Guy's Legends: 20 Years In The Making
Posted June 16, 2010 by elizabeth
The new location of Buddy Guy's Legends has finally reopened its doors on the streets of Chicago, IL.  Come celebrate the month long grand opening extravaganza during June 2010, with this week's events kicking off Blues Fest!
It all started in 1999, when the building that had been the club's home for 10 years prior was anonymously donated to Columbia College.  It has taken the following 20 years to search for a new location.  Buddy Guy was approached with the opportunity to purchase the building at 700 S. Wabash Ave and he is now the sole owner and proprietor of the venture.
With the purchase, Buddy had a few requirements, "The main stage had to be on the first floor with a corner entry, a first class kitchen, an expansion of the southern-inspired menu, the decor had to match the original with blue walls and a checkerboard patterned floor," insisting that, "A blues club is kind of old and funky."
The original Legends opened in 1989 following Guy's performance at the Chicago Blues Festival in which he invited festivalgoers to his new "home of the blues."  Those who have previously graced the stage include The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Junior Wells and B.B. King.
