Boz Scaggs News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Boz Scaggs first found musical fame as a vocalist with the Steve Miller Band, but excelled as a solo artist in the 1970s, making a name for himself as a blues legend.

The artist was raised in Oklahoma and Texas, where he met Steve Miller in high school. He performed with Millers first band, The Marksmen, in high school, before attending the University of Wisconsin together and performing in bands.

Scaggs returned to Dallas in 1963, fronting an R&B band that then moved to England and broke up. Upon returning to the U.S., Scaggs found a place with Miller again, this time with the Steve Miller Band. After recording two albums with the band, ““Children of the Future” and ““Sailor,” Scaggs launched a solo career.

While it took some time to flounder, Scaggs eventually found commercial and critical success with ‘Silk Degrees” in 1976. The album included hits ““Lowdown” and ““Lido Shuffle.” In 1977, ““Down Two Then Left” saw success, and ““Middle Man” in 1980 included the hits ““Breakdown Dead Ahead” and ““Jo Jo.”

After the success of these albums, Scaggs purchased two San Francisco nightclubs and left the music industry to run them, save an annual black-tie New Years Eve show. In 1988, though, he released another album and took to the road with Donald Fagen. He now tours consistently in the summers, and most recently released the studio album ““But Beautiful” in 2003, plus two greatest hits albums in 2004 and 2006, respectively.

Scaggs commercial and critical success, in addition to his experience with the legendary Steve Miller Band, has allowed him to flex his touring bones, and it is surely evident during live performances.
