Bone Thugs-n-Harmony have embarked on a 34-city tour this year in support of their soon to be released album, "Uni5: The World's Enemy". Ever since their reunion in 2008, an abundance of loyal fans have been grateful to have this band back in motion. Their 2007 reunion album, entitled "Strength and Loyalty", says it all. Layzie Bones recently summed it up to reporters, "You go through things to make you stronger, all your obstacles, all the things you go through that don't seem positive at that particular time are only to get you ready for the next phase of life."
The east coast leg of this tour begins in Boston, Mass., on April 5th. The rappers will head up to New York on April 6th and play one show in Pennsylvania on April 7th before heading to the Rams Head Live in Baltimore, Md., on April 8th. The tour will then head south and wind up on May 3rd in Tucson, Arizona.
The American hip-hop group Bone Thugs-n-Harmony began in Cleveland, Ohio back in 1991. The five members who make up the group call themselves Krayzie Bone, Wish Bone, Flesh-N-Bone, Layzie Bone and Bizzy Bone.
The band's hit singles, "Thuggish Ruggish Bone" (1994), "1st of tha Month" (1995) and "Tha Crossroads" (1995) marked a peak in their decade's long career. "Tha Crossroads" won a Grammy award in 1997, and the album itself, "E 1999 Eternal" sold four million copies. The talented rappers followed that up with another mega-hit album in 1997 called, "The Art of War", which marked their second studio recording, and, like the previous album sold 4 million copies.
The next two albums, "BTNHResurrection" and "Thug World Order" were less popular in 2000 and 2002. It was at that time the five band members took a break. However, in 2006 "Thug Stories" was recorded on Koch Records. The album sold 38,000 copies in its first week and was the first time that only three of them participated, recording as a trio.
In 2007, "Strength & Loyalty" was released to announce to their fans they were reuniting. The album contains collaborations with Mariah Carey, The Game, will.i.am, Akon, Twists, Bow Wow and others.
The reunion project has been fraught with serious legal issues so far. Although Layzie Bone has completed the "Bone Brothers III" album with the suggestion of a full reunion, Krayzie Bone stated that record label issues might prevent it. There have more issues with Bizzy Bone, who chose not to tour with them this year due to financial issues and record label issues.
Flesh-n-Bone (Stanly Howse) has also presented problems for the reunion. Howse was incarcerated in 2000 for pulling an AK-47 assault rifle out of a baby crib and pointing it a friend. Sentenced to 11 years in prison, he was released in 2008. However, an even older act of violence caught up with him during a recent sold out show on their current tour: officers arrested him when he came off the stage for striking his mother with a gun many years ago. It is unclear as to why the charges are being pressed now, but the upset is causing some speculation about the band breaking up... again.
