Black Crowes

News and Information

The Black Crowes are hitting the road at the end of this month for their expected summer touring, which includes a number of stops at House of Blues venues across the country.

The band, currently made up of Chris and Rich Robinson, Steve Forman, Adam MacDougall, Sven Pipien and Luther Dickinson, most recently released "Warpaint" on their own Silver Arrow Label.

The collection debuted at No.5 on the Billboard Chart, which is the best-first week showing since "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion."

While so many rock acts of the '70s and '80s were trying to keep afloat in the '90s by finding a different style of rock, The Black Crowes embraced the classic sound of the past - it worked well for them then and it still does today.

The group broke up for the first half of the decade to pursue solo endeavors. However, they got back together in 2005 for a stop at the Fillmore in San Francisco, which was marketed on CD and DVD. "The Lost Crowes" was released the same year, made up of two unreleased albums, "Tall" in 1993 and "Band" in 1997.

Chris and Rich have toured separately as an acoustic unit, but the group seems to be most comfortable together on stage.

Black Crowes Background Information

The Black Crowes were formed by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson, a vocalist and guitarist, respectively, in 1984 in Georgia. By 1990, the band had expanded to include Johnny Colt on bass, Jeff Cease on guitar and Steve Gorman on drums. Their debut album was "Shake Your Money Maker," and the hit single "Hard to Handle," a cover of the Otis Redding classic, was what catapulted them into superstardom. The next single from the album was 'She Talks to Angels," which solidified their spot at the top of the rock game.

Chris's straggly looks and mannerisms, matched by Richs long winded, fast-paced guitar solos were reminiscent of an older era of rock, and fans certainly embraced it. The next album, "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Charts, and the group was a massive concert draw the following summer. "Amorica" was the next album, and it also sat on the top of the charts.

While 1996s "Three Snakes and One Charm" was less commercially successful than the bands other albums, it was certainly among the most critically acclaimed from the band. In 2000, they released "Live at the Greek" with Led Zepplin guitarist Jimmy Page, and they put out a best-of album that same year.
