Bill Cosby News and Information Bill Cosby is humors renaissance man- he is a comedian that has excelled in bringing humor to television through action dramas, cartoons, childrens shows and a groundbreaking family sitcom, plus he spread his ability to millions of fans through recordings, not to mention a film career and stand-up tours.

Cosby started off on the stand-up circuit before scoring a role on the 1960s action show ““I Spy,” marking the first African American star of a dramatic television series. He then scored ““The Bill Cosby Show” later in the 1970s – it was a situation comedy that found Cosby as a physical education teacher in a Los Angeles high school, and it was quite successful. Cosby moved into the realm of childhood education next, creating ““The Electric Company” on PBS and ““Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.” Interestingly, Cosby used Fat Albert, which was often used as a teaching tool in schools, for his doctorate thesis in Education.

Cosby certainly hit his stride with the 1984 debut of ““The Cosby Show.” Cosby had complete creative control of the series, which followed the lives of Cliff and Clare Huxtable, an African American doctor and lawyer, respectively, and their family. The show represented a wholesome family comedy, moving away from the negative stereotypes that plagued many African Americans at the time.

Since the end of ““The Cosby Show” in 1992, the funnyman found most success as the host of ““Kids Say the Darndest Things” from 1998 through 2000. In latter years, however, he has been most well known for his opinions on African American families and the need for parents to teach morals at a younger age.

Throughout his career, Cosby has been known for his comedy albums. He has released almost 40 collections, receiving nine Grammy Awards for his efforts. His comedy is now found on stages across the country on select stand up tours, and it is certainly not something that should be missed.
