Beyonce's "I Am?" Tour, which takes her all over the world to Europe, Asia, and North and South America, is now in full swing. The tour is in support of her third studio album, "I Am? Sasha Fierce," which released on Nov. 18, 2008.

"Sasha Fierce" is the name of Beyonce's onstage persona. Eva Avila will be opening for Beyonce during the Canadian tour dates.

"I have someone else that takes over when it's time for me to work and when I'm on stage, this alter ego that I've created that kind of protects me and who I really am," Beyonce said.

The first two singles off the album, "If I Were a Boy" and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)," both topped the charts, with "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for four weeks. The album ultimately made Knowles the female artist with the most top ten songs on the Hot 100 this decade.

Earlier this year, Knowles won the "Outstanding Female Artist" at the 2009 NAACP Image Awards. She also performed the famous R&B classic by Etta James, "At Last," for President and Mrs. Obama's first dance at the Jan. 20, 2009 Inaugural Ball.

Beyonce has survived her rise through the ranks of girl groups and has solidified herself as one of the best female vocalists of her generation, while extending her area of expertise into clothing design and acting, as well.

The pop icon rose to fame as a member of Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time. The group was originally formed as a quartet with Knowles, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett. The Knowles family, with father Matthew as the band's manager, cut the family's income in half to further the band, but the efforts paid off with the 1998 single "No, No, No Part 2," which led to "The Writing's on the Wall" in 1999, featuring the hit singles "Bills, Bills, Bills" "Say My Name," "Bug a Boo" and "Jumpin' Jumpin'"

After the departure of Roberson and Luckett and the addition of Michelle Williams, the trio really hit their stride with "Survivor" in 2000, featuring "Independent Women Part 1," "Bootylicious" and "Survivor." In 2004 after three years to pursue solo projects, the girls released 'Destiny Fulfilled," which included the hits "Lose My Breath," "Soldier" and "Cater 2 U." The band then mounted a huge tour, where they announced they would disband at its completion, though amicably - the members are still featured in each other's music videos and seem to get along well.

Knowles' solo career took off almost immediately after the breakup. The singer already was known as a solo artist after her spot on Jay-Z's "'03 Bonnie & Clyde." In 2003, she released 'Dangerously in Love," including the single "Crazy in Love," "Baby Boy," "Me, Myself and I" and "Naughty Girl." Knowles cleaned up at the 2004 Grammy Awards, taking home five statuettes.

Knowles released "B'Day" in 2006 - it included the massive hits "D? Vu" and "Irreplaceable," and other hit singles "Upgrade U" (her fifth collaboration with Jay-Z), "Ring the Alarm" and "Get Me Bodied." A deluxe edition of the album was released in 2007 to include the hit duet with Shakira, "Beautiful Liar."

Knowles' sound has evolved since her days in Destiny's Child - her newest album was thought to be quite a stretch from her more pop-oriented album, but it wound up reaching out to the mainstream quite well, based on the number of hits.
