Arlo Guthrie has developed the passion for music that his father, Woody, also brought to the table - and he is constantly touring the country to show fans that hes still got it.
Guthrie grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and while his father was hospitalized for most of his childhood, his youth was spent with musical greats like Pete Seeger and Cisco Houston. By the age of six he had learned how to play the guitar, and he was performing for coffeehouse crowds by his teen years.
Guthrie bust onto the scenes with 'Alices Restaurant Massacree" in 1967, an over-18 minute song that has been known to extend to upwards of 45 minutes in concert. The track was initially a hit on college radio stations - it is a protest against the Vietnam War draft, and it is based upon facts. Guthrie was indeed rejected as unfit for the military because of his criminal record for littering. The film "Alices Restaurant" in 1969 was based on the song.
While "Alice" was his only gold record, he continued to release folk music throughout the '70s and '80s. He found success with "City of New Orleans" in 1972, and received some critical acclaim during his debut- in 1976, his album "Amigo" received five stars from Rolling Stone, the highest possible rating.
While Guthrie has been touring regularly over the years, he has also shown interest in acting in films and on television. His main passion, however, is clearly music - he has released over 20 albums throughout his career, even creating his own label, Rising Son Records, in 1981.
While recording has taken a back seat to his other career paths, he is constantly touring to bring his talents to all of the fans that adore him so.
