Annie Lennox has been hailed as "The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive" by VH1, and she thrived as both a single artist and the lead singer of the Eurythmics. Throughout her career, Lennox sold over 78 million records.

Lennox grew up in Aberdeen, Scotland, and studied the flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After graduating, the singer spent three years leading The Tourists before joining David A. Stewart to form the Eurythmics.

In the beginning of her career, Lennox was known for her androgyny - she had short hair and often wore suits, sometimes while impersonating Elvis Presley. While that was part of the allure of the group, a steady stream of hits also helped their cause. In the 1980s, the duo released hits such as "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)," "Here Comes the Rain Again," "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)," "Missionary Man," "Whos That Girl?", "Dont As Me Why," "Youve Placed a Chill in My Heart" and "Would I Lie to You."

When Lennox split with Stewart in 1990, she began a successful solo career that started with the 1988 single "Put a Little Love in Your Heart." She released her solo debut in 1992, "Diva." The album included the hits "Why" and "Walking on Broken Glass." The singer voluntarily left the spotlight to raise her children outside of Hollywood. She couldnt help but record, though - she put out "Medusa," a cover album that included songs from The Clash and Bob Marley. The top single was "No More I Love Yous."

In 1998, she re-joined Stewart and released a new Eurythmics album, "Peace." In 2003, she released her third solo effort, "Bare," which included her first-ever solo tour, which included a number of intimate shows across the globe.

While Lennox hasnt had incredible commercial success in recent years, she did score an Academy Award for Best Song with "Into the West" from "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." Following the success, she embarked on a massive North American tour with Sting. She reconnected with Stewart yet again for a best-of Eurythmics album, for which they recorded two additional albums.

This fall, Lennox will release "Songs of Mass Destruction," produced by Glen Ballard. The album has collected a number of extremely successful females for the song "Sing." Fergie, Melissa Etheridge, Faith Hill, Gladys Knight, Madonna, Sarah MacLachlan, Pink, Shakira, Bonnie Raitt, Joss Stone and KT Tunstall were all included in the song.
