Anita Baker is traveling this summer, in anticipation of her upcoming live release. She will hit Atlanta, GA, June 27th, Costa Mesa, CA July 18th, Clarkson, MI July 31st, and Washington, DC on September 18th.

Baker is a multi-Grammy-Award-Winning performer, who has earned four platinum and three gold albums during her forty-year career.

The singer released her first album, "The Songstress," in 1983 after working her way up the musical ladder in Ohio. Her first mainstream hit came from "Rapture" in 1986 - "Sweet Love." The album also caught her two Grammy Awards in 1987, and allowed her to embark on a massive tour.

In 1988, Baker released "Giving You the Best That I Got," which included "Just Because" and the title track - that became Baker's biggest hit of her career. "Compositions" was released in 1990, and "Rhythm of Love" in 1994 - both were commercial successes, and brought her Grammy total to eight.

In 2002, a best-of compilation was released ("The Best of Anita Baker"), and Blue Note Records signed Baker to an exclusive recording contract. In that collaboration, she released "My Everything" in 2004 and "Christmas Fantasy" in 2005.

In 2008, Baker embarked on a concert tour - at the Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake, Minnesota, she filmed a concert for an upcoming live DVD and B-roll footage for promotion.

New Anita Baker Album In The Works
Posted June 24, 2010 by elizabeth
Anita Baker took some time off from her recording session to speak with Essence Magazine about her forthcoming new album!
For Anita, making music is her passion.? In response to criticism for canceling performances this summer, " You know, typically, I'd be out on the road with our audience, but I've canceled my summer dates to deliver the record."
With this record, Anita is reaching out to a new, second generation of fans.? Some new faces that will appear on the album include Tyrese and Snoop Dogg.? Fans can expect a departure from anything that Baker has done before.
When beginning the process of recording, Anita has?the luxury of working with labels that give her the freedom to decide what she wants to do, whether it be gospel, jazz or something contemporary.? Once she has made that decision the music then comes first, followed by lyrics.
In the aftermath of her recent divorce, Anita has found sanctuary in her music.? She admits that the record is full of a life lived, "There are luxurious love songs, there's fun music, there's also some very introspective grown-up things and you know we're just trying to bring you some quality."
Anita admits that the title for the album is the last thing to develop.? As of now, there is no word of a release date, but keep your eyes peeled for a release sometime this year!
Anita Baker to perform at Jazz Fest
Posted January 14, 2010 by jordan
Anita Baker is scheduled to perform the first weekend of The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival!

The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, dubbed Jazz Fest, is held April 23-25; April 29-30; and May 1-2. What began at a small square in New Orleans in the 70s has now grown to fill an entire arena.

Though it?s held in New Orleans, it offers more than Cajun music. Performers like Aretha Franklin, Aaron Neville, the Allman Brothers, Darius Rucker, Steve Martin, Better Than Ezra and Average White Band will be performing in 2010 on one of 12 stages.

Jazz Fest food is also a treat for the palate. Sure, it might be a festival, but the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation (who puts together the festival) has a strict ?No Carnival Food? rule. With more than 70 food vendor booths, festival-goers can expect to get the very best Cajun food in Lousiana with dishes like crawfish beignets, cochon de lait sandwiches, alligator sausage po' boy (sandwich), boiled crawfish, softshell crab po'boy and crawfish Monica, according to the festival?s official Web site.

In addition to music and food, there are also several craft vendors that maintain booths in three separate areas of the arena: Contemporary, Congo Square or Folk.
