This December, Andrew Bird is returning to religious temples in four major U.S. cities for his trademark Gezelligheid performances.

According to a press release from Bird, Gezelligheid is "a Dutch term that can only be approximately translated into English using the word "coziness," a term that fails to fully describe the more intensely warm, amicable and joyous atmosphere the word expresses in its native language."

His performances run from Dec. 2 at the First Avenue in Minneapolis and wraps up with a three night performance at Chicago's Fourth Presbyterian Church from Dec. 15-17.
Along the way, he also has stops at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, D.C. from Dec. 6-8 and the Converse Hall at Tremont Temple in Boston on Dec. 10.

Andrew Bird was born in 1973 and from the time he was four he was already in music training. He carried his love of music with him through college and graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor's in violin performance in 1996.

The same year of his college graduation he released his debut solo album, Music of Hair. White the album relied heavily on Bird's violin skills, he also incorporated his love of folk, jazz and blues. It was because of this album that he began collaborating with Squirrel Nut Zippers and ultimately assisted them with three of their albums.

Between 1997 and 2003, Andrew Bird formed a group called Bowl of Fire and released three albums: Thrills (1998), Oh! The Grandeur (1999) and The Swimming Hour (2001). Throughout this time, Bird remained focused on folk and jazz, and began incorporating swing music. For the third album, the band changed things up with rock songs as well.

Ironically, Bird's solo career spurred from a concert that the band was asked to play. When the other members couldn't make it, Bird played the show on his own. From the positive reviews he received, Bird began thinking about life as a solo musician.

When Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire disbanded in 2003, Andrew began reinventing himself as an artist, starting with his musical direction. The first two albums that he released following Bowl of Fire have been classified more as indie-folk. Where he used to rely on the backing of a full band, Bird now began incorporating guitar and even whistling into his new songs.

After signing to a new record, Bird released his fourth solo album, Armchair Apocrypha, in March 2007. Following the release of the album, Bird performed on the Late Show with David Letterman and the Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Noble Beast, Bird's fifth solo album, was released in January 2009. It features the popular songs "Oh No" and "Carrion Suite."
