In January, Anberlin is kicking off a tour in support of their latest album, Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place. The 13-city tour kicks off on Jan. 14 at The National in Richmond and runs through Jan. 30 at Crocodile Rock in Allentown, Penn.

Along the way, Anberlin also has stops at The Orange Peel in Asheville, N.C. on Jan. 16; the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio, on Jan. 24; and Rams Head Live in Baltimore on Jan. 26.

Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place, the band's fifth studio album, debuted in September 2010. It features the hit single "Impossible," which peaked at No. 5 on Billboard's Alternative SOngs chart and No. 14 on the Rock Songs chart.

The band that we've come to know and love as Anberlin started in the late 1990s when lead singer Stephen Christian met bassist Deon Rexroat in high school and formed the band SaGoh 24/7. During SaGoh 24/7's history, guitarist Joseph Milligan and drummer Sean Hutson joined the band, and together they released two albums between 1998 and 2002.

After Hutson left the band, the three remaining members decided to start playing more rock songs, which led them to record five new rock demos and post them on mp3.com. From there, the band received a number of offers from record labels, though they ended up signing with Tooth & Nail Records.

With the new band name Anberlin they came out swinging with two albums: Blueprints for the Black Market (2003) and Never Take Friendship Personal (2005). The albums each had successful singles, but failed to hit the mainstream market.

Anberlin's small break into mainstream came with their 2007 album, Cities. In support of the new album, the band went on their first headlining tour and were signed to Universal Republic Records in August 2007. Just one year after joining forces with Universal, the band released their fourth studio album, New Surrender, which featured the hit song "Breaking." Following the album's release, it jumped to No. 13 on the Billboard 200 chart and led to their second headlining tour throughout the U.S.

Following their U.S. tour, Anberlin went overseas for performances in the U.K. and Australia before heading stateside to work on material for their newest album. In September 2010, the band debuted Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place continuing under Universal Republic.

The current band members are Stephen Christian (lead vocals), Joseph Milligan (lead guitar), Deon Rexroat (bass), Nathan Young (drums) and Christian McAlhaney (rhythm guitar).
