The family duo Aly & AJ have only been on the scene for a few years, but they are certainly developing quite an active following, between their singing and acting.
The sisters, Alyson (Aly), and Amanday Joy (AJ) Michalka, ages 18 and 16, respectively, began performing at the tender ages of three and five. Originally from Canada, the family relocated to Seattle and now lives in California.
As their careers progressed, Aly began to act more ? she has had a staring role on the Disney Channel hit series "Phil of the Future." A.J. has been featured in "Birds of Prey," "General Hospital" and "Six Feet Under."
In a contract with Disney, the two have recorded a number of songs for several different films, such as "Ice Princess" and "Herbie: Fully Loaded." The girls also have some experience on the road, opening for the teen favorites Cheetah Girls on their "Cheetah-licious Christmas Tour in 2005.
Throughout their short career, the girls have been clear about their faith, which has brought them fans from the Christian music scene. In 2006, Aly and AJ were nominated for the Contemporary Inspirational Artist of the Year, or the Christian Artist of the Year, at the American Music Awards ? although they didn?t win, they got some face time on the show introducing Nelly Furtado?s performance.
That same year, they released "Acoustic Hearts of Winter," which included traditional Christmas songs. Their newest album, "Insomniatic," is set to be released in the summer of 2007.
As of late, the girls have been featured in films together ? they are also traveling out on the road. It?s a great opportunity to catch this dynamic family duo in person!
