Alice in Chains News and Information

After releasing no albums for nearly 14 years, Alice in Chains finally came out with "Black Gives Way to Blue" in November. Now, the band is taking to the road in support of that album.
Their tour kicks off on Feb. 2, 2010 in Vancouver and runs through March 21, ending in Minneapolis.
Alice in Chains formed in 1987 in Seattle, Washington with the original members of Jerry Cantrell and Layne Staley. They soon became famous for the early 90s 'grunge' movement, though they were more successful than other notable bands—like Pearl Jam and Nirvana—at that time.
In total, the band has released four albums: "Facelift" in 1990; "Dirt" in 1992; "Alice in Chains" in 1995; and "Black Gives Way to Blue" in 2009.
Though the band never officially disbanded, they were not active during the fourteen year period, which sources say was due to Layne Staley's substance abuse. Staley later died in 2002, and William DuVall was brought in as the new lead vocalist in 2005.
DuVall is not the only new addition in the "Black Gives Way to Blue" album. It was also released by Virgin Records, though in the past the band had previously released with Columbia Records.
