Albert Hammond Jr News and Information
Posted 6/18/2009
Albert Hammond gained fame as a member of The Strokes, and has ventured off on his own with a successful 2006 solo debut and tour.

Hammond grew up influenced by musician Albert Hammond and attended the elite boarding school Instit Le Rosey in Switzerland where he met bandmate Julian Casablancas. In 1998 he met up with Casablancas and former schoolmates Nikolai Fraiture, Nick Valensi and Fabrizio Moretti in New York City and formed The Strokes.

The group released "Is This It” in 2001, which was critically acclaimed. They went on a massive world tour, including some opening spots for The Rolling Stones. The rockers also had a commercial success on their hands - they were becoming the best big name in rock.

The group released "Room on Fire” in 2003, which spawned covers of Spin Magazine and Rolling Stone. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA and prompted another tour. Their follow-up was "First Impressions on Earth,” which gained them more worldwide attention than in the U.S. The group was named the "Best International Band” at the NME Awards.

After a massive U.S. tour, the group announced that they would take a hiatus, and that is when Hammond went to work - he released "Yours to Keep” in 2006 and toured the world to promote it. His sound is defined as softer than the Strokes, and another solo album is in the works. Hammond has said that while he enjoys his solo works, he has no plans on leaving the band.
