Aimee Mann

News and Information
Aimee Mann has gained a devoted base of fans over her 25-year career by showcasing her introspective lyrics, hauntingly emotional voice and simple melodies.

Mann grew up in Virginia and joined the punk rock band Young Snakes in 1982. The following year she formed ''Til Tuesday and released the hit album "Voiced Carry" in 1985. The band released two more albums before she left to pursue a solo career in 1990.

Three years later, Mann released "Whatever." In 1995, she put out "Im with Stupid." Both albums found high critical and low commercial success rates. When Mann met Michael Penn in the late 80s they began recording together and were married in 1997.

Mann hit the mainstream in 1999 after contributing eight songs to the soundtrack of "Magnolia," a film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The compilation, which was recorded in conjunction with the characters of the movie, included the hit "Save Me," nominated for Academy and Grammy Awards.

Mann then embraced a more indie sound, pinpointing it as Acoustic Vaudeville around the Largo nightclub in LA. She continued to release "Lost in Space" in 2002, "Live at St. Anns Warehouse" in 2004, which included a DVD, and "The Forgotten Arm" n 2005.

The singer tried her hand at holiday music with "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" in 2005. The EP was released on iTunes and included holiday songs "Christmastime," "The Christmas Song," "River" and "I Was Thinking I Could Clean Up for Christmas." She followed that with a full-length holiday album, "One More Drifter in the Snow" in 2006.

In 2007, Mann released a music video for "31 Today," off of a new studio album tentatively titled "Smilers." Later in the year, two of her tracks, "The Great Beyond" and "At the Edge of the World," showed up on the soundtrack for the film "Arctic Tale."
