From March to June, Adele, the British four time Grammy Award-winning singer, is on the road for her 15-city North American tour. Her tour is in support of her debut album, "19," which was released in January 2008.
Although not an instant success, Adele gathered many more fans as the musical guest on the October 18, 2008 Saturday Night Live show. SNL drew in even more viewers because of the guest appearance of Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin.
Just over one year since her debut album, Adele is making quite a name for herself in the music industry by receiving four Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Chasing Pavements." She eventually went on to win for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, known professionally as Adele, was born 5 May 1988 in Enfield, North London. Adele's rise to popularity began in 2004 when she was 16. She wrote her first song, "Hometown Glory." Then in 2008, Adele signed to an independent music label called XL Recordings, where she released her second song, "Chasing Pavements," which made up it to No. 2 for four weeks in the UK Chart.
In response to winning two Grammy Awards for her one and only album, Adele said, "I can't see how this album life span could get any better and I don't feel like it needs to be. I'm already over the moon and blown away with people's response to it."
