AC/DC Background Information
Australian band AC/DC are pioneers of rock and heavy metal, beginning with their breakout in 1979 and continuing through today.
The group was formed by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young in 1973 and they released their first album, "High Voltage," in 1975. The group released a number of memorable singles early in their career that influenced the genre, including "T.N.T," and "Its a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock n Roll)." Their breakout album was "Highway to Hell" in 1979. The collection included the title track, "Girls Got Rhythm," "Touch Too Much" and "Night Prowler."
Frontman and co-songwriter Bon Scott died after a night of heavy drinking in 1980, and the group contemplated disbanding - after Brian Johnson signed on they released their biggest album, "Back in Black" later that year. The collection included some of the bands most notable tracks, including the title track, "Hells Bells," and "You Shook Me All Night Long."
The groups next album, "For Those About to Rock We Salute You" was also extremely popular - it was the first hard rock album to debut at No.1 in the U.S., which is something that many rock acts have worked towards. The album included the massive hits "Lets Get It Up" and the title track.
The group spent some time out of the limelight in the mid 80s, and made a comeback with 1988 with "Blow Up Your Video." The collection was a commercial success and included the hit singles "Heatseeker" and "Thats the Way I Wanna Rock and Roll."
The group has sold 150 million albums worldwide. "Back in Black" is the 5th highest-selling album in the U.S., 7th on MTVs "Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All Time," and is ranked 4th on VH1s list of 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
The most recent release from the legendary rockers was "Stiff Upper Lip" in 2000. A new album is expected for 2008.
