A Perfect Circle is an alt-rock supergroup formed by the frontman of a genre-breaking act and an industry pro.

Guitarist Billow Howerdel worked as a guitar tech for Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and Tool. The frontman of the latter, Maynard James Keenan, offered himself to perform with Howerdel if he ever wanted to create a band, and the connection was made in 1999.

The lineup is filled with equally talented musicians: bassist Jeordie White (from Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails), guitarist James Iha (of The Smashing Pumpkins), and drummer Josh Freese (of Nine Inch Nails).

The group first released "Mer de Noms" and opened for Nine Inch Nails on the 2000 Fragility v2.0 tour, and they continued to headline some tours for the rest of the summer. The next release was "Thirteenth Step" in 2003, which was accompanied with a massive tour through the world through 2004.

"Emotive" was released in 2004, which included a number of anti-war cover songs. Interestingly, almost all of the tracks were recorded with various different members of the band. The bands most recent release was a CD/DVD set "aMotion."

The group never officially disbanded, but they have been on hiatus since 2006 - since the members of the band are so involved in the alt-rock industry, they all are preoccupied with other facets of the industry.
